With Summer a recent memory and Autumn fully upon us, it’s definitely patio season. The crisp air and dark nights make for two thirds of a perfect evening spent outdoors. That third ingredient is a toasty fire. For ages the whole process of starting, maintaining and enjoying a good burn was more of a hassle than anything until Solo Stove came along and solved a lot of the headaches with their pioneering fire pits. In this review we take a look at their newly revamped flagship model, the Solo Stove Bonfire Fire Pit 2.0
CONSTRUCTION
The Solo Stove Bonfire fire pit is made from 304 Grade Stainless Steel. This particular alloy is highly corrosion resistant and long lasting thanks to the chromium and nickel contents. This pit measures 19.5 in diameter and 14 in tall, weighing in at a modest 23 lbs.
The machining and finish are top notch, no unsightly welds…just beautiful stainless steel. Just pulling it out of the box and you can tell this is a quality item – The heft and solid build speaks for itself.
FUNCTION
I love a good fire and the Solo Bonfire excels. It gets chilly at night here in the northeast so I put the Bonfire 2.0 to the test the first night it dipped below 40 degrees. Getting it set up consisted of inserting the ash pan and tray, flipping the ring collar and loading up some kindling.
Within 10 minutes I had a respectable blaze going! The contrast of the bitter cold and the heat of the fire put me in an almost primal trance. As with most fire pits, the heat is from the knees up, however Solo has an optional heat deflector to disperse heat better.
Clean up was also wickedly simple. The Bonfire burns so hot all that’s left is ash, you can clean it up in one easy dump! The overall simplicity of this pit makes it so much more accessible which means you’ll get so much repeat use out of it. My only gripe is this pit seems to burn wood at an accelerated pace, a typical bundle from a hardware store might last you about 1.5 hours depending on how you feed it.
AESTHETIC
They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and a quick google will yield several different copycat designs. None though seem to capture the premium look and feel of a Solo Stove.
Very reminiscent of brands like Yeti or Rumpl. The clean lines and simplistic motif really blends allows the Solo Bonfire Firpit to blend in and enhance most surroundings. At the beach, at a campsite or even a small backyard will all benefit aesthetically.
CONCLUSION
The Solo Stove Bonfire Smokeless Fire Pit 2.0 is a great investment if you spend a lot of time outdoors entertaining, relaxing, whatever. The custom accessories offered by Solo also let you expand the utility of your fire, making it as much a tool as it is an already awesome recreational product. The price point is fair and inline with most high end fire pits. All considered, we definitely recommend it, if you’re still on the fence, check out the other sized pits offered by Solo.
